Yes. Ski Team Members need to purchase a lift ticket in addition to the cost of the team. The cost of Ski Team covers the lessons, racing, trophies etc.
Children on the Ski Team are required to be 5 years old.
Members of the Ski Team are required to be able to use the lifts independently. If they are not able to use the lift on their own, they must be accompanied by an adult.
Ski Team meets from 10am to 2pm. Skiers are encouraged to come with enough time in advance to be ready to ski at 10am. Lunch is around noon and they can bring their own or buy from the cafe.
Did you know that Olympic Gold Medalist Andrew Weibrecht won his first race at Beartown? He is part of a tradition where children and their families put time and effort into Ski Team and they fall in love with skiing. Most make it a lifetime sport. We understand not every child can make it both days on all weekends. We simply encourage as much participation as possible. Like all things, you get out of it what you put into it.
Beartown does not provide rentals. You can visit local ski shops (try Viking or Maui North in Plattsburgh). They will set you up with the basics. Talk to the coaches if you have specific questions about your child's equipment. Helmets are required.
We encourage children at all levels to stick with the team once they are on it. The lessons are meant to be fun and challenging. Practice makes progress. Talk to the coaches if you have concerns. A refund would be considered on a case by case basis.
The goal with racing is for everyone to have a little fun. Everyone is welcome to race so parents, dust off your old skis and give it a go!
Races are typically a combined score of two races. The first race is before lunch, the second race follows the lunch break. Awards follow the second race. For an 11:30am start, registration opens at 10am.
Members of the Ski Team are strongly encouraged to race. Finishing the race at their own pace is a win!
